With great excitement and anticipation, you have been counting down to your fifth birthday for months.
‘How many more sleeps?’ has been your daily, and sometimes more than daily, catch cry.
Guess what, darling heart? There are no more sleeps.
Today, you are five.
You have equated turning five with becoming a proper big girl.
For the better part of this year, you’ve had your mind set on achieving certain things before you turn five. You can now whistle, click your fingers, and you completely blew me and your swimming teacher away at the pool yesterday when you all of a sudden started swimming laps.
You seem to be bubbling over with energy and happiness lately. There is always pure joy on your face and pure joy is undoubtedly what you bring our little family.
Each day you amaze us with how tall you are becoming and how clever, strong, loving and eager to try new things you are.
While dancing is still your passion, you’ve taken a huge interest in acrobatics. You and your sister delight in putting on circus performances for me where you show off your mad handstand and cartwheeling skills.
Your hunger for devouring books hasn’t subsided. If I can’t read to you, you take your little sister and cuddle up to her on the couch and read your own version of the story to her. You can’t wait to learn to read properly. We’re going to have fun with the early readers we gave you for your birthday.
Your imagination is still live and well. Fairies seem to be the flavour of the month as you tell us tall tales of Tinkerbell sprinkling fairy dust on your nose during the night, so you can fly with her.
You’re a very kind and caring big sister. If your little sister gets scared watching Peter Rabbit, you will bring her into your nook and cuddle her tightly. If she falls over and I’m not there to help, you tell her she’s okay. I absolutely love that when you were given two $20 notes for your birthday, you said you would give one to her so she could buy something for herself. Your heart is filled with generosity and kindness and there’s not a bad bone in your body.
You’re becoming more and more interested in being active. You love climbing and running and are taking notice of how strong and capable you are.
It’s only six months now until you start prep. While I know you’re afraid of meeting new people and making new friends, we know that it won’t be long before people fall in love with you and you make a new group of friends.
As for me, I will miss you, my first baby girl. We have been tight since the day you were born and I’m certain I will be holding back the tears on your first day.
My sweet angel, I’m so excited for what this year brings for you.
We are so lucky, beautiful girl, to have a truly special little soul like you in our lives.
Happy birthday, Monkey.
Love Mummy xo
