CityGrips review and giveaway

I’ve been totally rocking the burbs lately with some funky pram and stroller handlebar covers sent to me from Choopie to road test.

I was a little skeptical when the US company contacted me to review their CityGrips. I’d never heard of them on the market before in Australia and while they looked great, I just didn’t know how practical they actually would be.

This is me on the way to the park with the kids ... Ahem!

This is me on the way to the park with the kids … Ahem!

CityGrips are basically small, soft covers that fit onto your pram or stroller’s handlebars to protect your handlebar from everyday wear and tear and to help avoid sweaty and sticky hands.

We trialed the Chevron navy

We trialled the Chevron navy

With Brisbane’s scorching hot weather of late, we really were the perfect candidates to take them for a test drive and see just how effective they are at combating sweat and grime.

We’ve been on a number of outings now with the CityGrips and I can definitely see their appeal. Made out of neoprene (wetsuit material) they are soft, comfortable, and help prevent your hands from slipping when you become sweaty.

They have a nifty Velcro backing which makes them super easy to attach to your pram. They are available in a range of gorgeous patterns and come in single or double handlebar sizes.

What appeals to me most about them, apart from their funky designs, and that they are mum invented, mum tested and mum designed, is that they are machine washable. As soon as you think they’re getting a little grubby, all you have to do is whip them off and throw them in the machine.

Dave gave the grips a go last weekend and was quietly impressed. He found it more comfortable holding onto the pram handlebar with the extra support of the grips rather than just the slim pram handlebar. He did say he would like to see them a little wider though to cater for men also.

I haven’t had a chance to try this yet, but I also think they would attach perfectly to shopping trolley handles which, much to my disgust, Smiley loves to chew on.

CityGrips are the brainchild of NYC mum Camie Gontier who came up with the idea for them one summer’s day when she was grossed out by her sticky and germy pram handlebars.

Today, Choopie is offering Mummy, Wife, Me readers 50 % off their entire order at http://www.choopie.com. All you have to do is use the promo code MWM50OFF. This offer is available until 21 March 2014.

But wait there’s more!

My pramming days are behind me, but I LOVE your idea of applying this idea to shopping trolleys. They’re gross, and always used to get licked by mine! You’re an innovator dude. Go forth and conquer the product innovation world πŸ˜‰

Pram handles can get pretty gross and germy. If I was still rockin’ the burbs I’d definitely want to get hold (geddit??) of some of these πŸ™‚ Alas, the boys are now pram-free!

    I like the zigzag colour.

They’d be great for shopping trolleys. I just bought a custom made trolley cover cos I don’t want her catching germs from the trolleys. They gross me out.

What a fab idea! Living in stinking hot Queensland, my hands sweat so much on the handles of my stroller so this is brilliant. I’m loving the Navy Chevron pattern, it’s funky and modern.

I love the chevron pattern. And I agree, your hands can be pretty sweaty and gross when pushing a pram in Brisbane. I wonder how many of us wipe down the handle to get rid of any lurking germs?

Good idea about the shopping trolley – such a simple thing. I laughed too at their promo photo – perhaps NYC moms rock the big apple like that but not so much Brissie mums rockin the burbs.
