The first time I heard my two-year-old Smiley wail to Let it go, I thought it was the cutest thing ever … until she started singing it over and over again.
‘Heeeerrrrrre I stannnnnd. Let it goooOOOOOooooo,’ quickly became a little less cute and a lot more irritating.
As much as we all love the movie, I knew it was time to broaden our musical horizons.
Luckily for us, we were able to get our hot little hands on two pre-release songs from a new children’s music website.
The Quincys, which launched yesterday, is the creation of musician Gregor Hacksa and his wife author Zanni Louise who live in Northern New South Wales.
Gregor has spent the last two years creating the music and building with Zanni a special online home to share their songs, stories, and to encourage children to imagine, create and care for their environment.
The website and music centres on three characters Polli, Roc and Sundrop who love music, playing and the environment.
Within seconds of pressing play, Miss Four started dancing. Spinning, twirling, swaying and jumping, she let herself become lost in the music.
Smiley was quick to follow in her sister’s footsteps. With an excited grin on her face she bopped along to the tune awkwardly attempting to mimic her sister’s graceful moves.
I’ve been trying to think of how to describe this first song from The Quincys to you.
It is quite simply, beautiful.
The acoustic guitar and melodic voice of Nina-Rae Saunders lifts you up, makes you sway to the tune and fills you with calm and joy. It is simple, stripped back and wholesome music.
I’d only played it a couple of times before I caught Dave whistling the tune and Miss Four singing along with him.
I can tell The Quincys will be a regular feature in our household from here on in.
Flowers For The Bees was launched to the public along with The Quincys website yesterday. Head over to the site now to listen to it and be sure to return early December for the second song, which has quickly become a favourite with our girls.
On the first Wednesday of each month, an original song will be released through the website setting a theme for the month. In the following weeks stories and activities will be shared on that theme.
Fans will be encouraged to share their creations inspired by the activities in The Quincys’ Facebook page gallery.
This competition is now closed. Thank you to all for your beautiful entries.
The Quincys have been kind enough to offer three Mummy, Wife, Me readers a gorgeous editioned print which accompanies the Flowers For The Bees song. The prints are original prints by Zanni and are 8 x 10 (20 x 25cm) on 210 gsm archival paper.
All you need to do is tell me in the comments what your favourite flower is and why.
