Life these days

In a cruel twist of fate, our household has been struck down with its third vomiting bug in as many weeks.

Somebody hold me.

It doesn’t matter how many showers I have, how many times I wash the sheets, scrub the carpets and mop the floors, I can still smell vomit.

It’s a miracle I haven’t gotten sick, but sometimes us mums just power through, don’t we?! We don’t let ourselves get sick because ain’t nobody got time for that. In saying that, I’ll probably get sick now …

While my little loves have been off colour, we’ve been taking it verrry slow and keeping things as simple as possible.

There has been plenty of snuggling on the couch watching TV. I now know The Wiggles Rockabye your bear song (and the dance moves) verbatim and have at times found myself responding to Dora when she asks a question. It’s not all bad. My Spanish has improved.

When cabin fever began to set in, we ventured into the backyard.

While Smiley blew bubbles, Curly-locks and I practiced the art of clicking your fingers and whistling – two of the things on her bucket list before she turns five.

In the few days between tummy bugs, when we foolishly thought we were better, we ventured to the local shops.

We even went on a bloggy blind date with Bec from Daycare Decisions blog. Bec had spotted me at our local shops a while back and emailed asking if it was me she had seen.

It was.

I had cringed as I read her email wondering what I was doing at the time of the said sighting. Was I looking like a dag? Were the kids behaving? Was Smiley having one of her trademark tantrums in the middle of Coles?

We must have been behaving semi-normal because Bec was keen to meet in real life.

After just a couple of hours it felt as though a new friendship was in the making. You know when you meet someone and you just click? Well that’s what happened last Friday.

We not only discovered our youngest two are born just a mere month apart, but they also have the same name and will most likely be in the same kindergarten class. We also worked out that we’ve both lived in Essex, we both love blogging (of course) and live within five minutes of each other.

How cool is that?

Besides that, I’m planning a few super cool surprises for Mummy, Wife, Me readers next month. May is seriously my favourite month of the year – my little old blog will turn two, there’s Mother’s Day and my birthday.

Exciting times ahead! I’m pumped about giving something back next month, so stay tuned!

How’s life been treating you lately? Tell me some of the highlights and lowlights. Get it all of your chest with Aunty Renee πŸ˜‰ Made any new friends lately?

I’ve also lived in Essex and I also love blogging but I’m not sure that we live five minutes from each other. (2 our of 3 ain’t bad!) I’ve had a couple of bloggy blind dates and they’re so much fun, aren’t they? I hope everyone and everything comes up smelling of roses very soon – here’s to being bug free!

I lived in the UK almost all my life but I’m nearly Australian! Grew up in Woodford Green (just Essex,) and later moved to Colchester in the mid-late eighties. Almost all of my oldest friends live in Southend, Colchester and Epping way. I’d like to say I’m a bit cockney but the truth is I sound like an extra off “The Only Way is Essex”! What about you?

Lol!!! That is awesome. We lived in Colchester from 2003 to 2005. We were in the Hythe. It has a really special place in my heart. We made so many amazing friends there. Shame we don’t live in the same city now. It would be fun to catch up.

    I’ve never been to Essex.
I don’t get to meet many bloggers in Canberra-ville either (sad face).
On the plus side we’ve all been well!

Renee, three times in three weeks is really bad luck!! I hope you’re at the end of it now, and your poor little possums are on the mend.
Isn’t it fabulous when you meet other bloggers in real life, and they turn out to be future friends? I love that!
Bell and I were only just talking about how exciting it was when she learned how to whistle; it was certainly a big moment in our household! xx

Yes, I can imagine. It’s such a tricky thing to do. I have never really been able to whistle after I had my braces off, strangely. Unfortunately, Smiley is coming down with a bad cold now. Must be the low immune system. Thanks lovely x

I love hearing how you and Bec have connected and become connected! It can be bizarre, (or maybe divine?) how some friendships begin. I can’t believe how many times I’ve smiled reading this, love the humour you inject in your writing Renee! As for me, I haven’t made any new friends lately, although I would like to, I need a new bestie. (I’ve just drifted apart from a close friend, which I’m devo about, but she doesn’t seem to care about. Sigh.)

Oh man, Renee. That’s not fair. My son had a 24 hour fever bug last week. I think besides the sleepless nights during and following, it was the cabin fever that got me most. I wanted out of the house so badly. One of my friends agreed to go for a walk. Her child safely tucked into their pram , away from my sick-ling in his. It’s a hard job, this mum gig. Hope you are all feeling much better soon.

I have always listened with fear at stories like these and have crossed my fingers and toes that it doesn’t happen in my house. Ha! Wishful thinking. My husband and I were struck down with food poisoning a month ago (dodgy sausages) and I am eternally grateful I decided to feed our toddler something different that night. It was a hellish 24 hours.

A new friendship to look forward to is lovely though. So nice when you meet someone you click with.

    Discovered you through IBOT x

Oh thank God you didn’t feed that to your toddler. Food poisoning is dreadful. You poor things.

Vomiting, ear infections – you’re due a break soon surely?! Hope everyone is on the mend and you steer clear of any nasties. Dora is certainly an excellent listener. She gives you plenty of time to respond. I find myself always responding otherwise she stares at me in silence which is just plain creepy. Lovely to hear of your bloggy meet up! I’ve got one at the end of the month here in Perth and can’t wait. Wishing you lots of positive healthy vibes for the rest of the week Renee πŸ™‚

There is nothing worse than the dreaded tummy bugs, especially in young children. I hope everyone gets better soon and you manage to avoid it! Good luck

Love that you made another blogging friend! And so close! Sometimes life just works out, doesn’t it?
I love May too! My birthday too, Mother’s Day too, but no blogiversary. Just selfish reasons, haha! And two? Your blog’s only two? I swear I’ve been reading it longer than that!
Hope your tribe is all better soon. (And yes, I swear the vomit smell latches onto our nostril hairs. I mean, you know, not that we have nostril hairs or anything…)

How lucky to have someone so similar to you so close! I know I’ve said it before but your daughters are gorgeous. That beautiful blonde curly ringlet-ted mop top! I went through many vomiting bugs and there was nothing worse. Trying to wash large chunks down the laundry sink…. bleuuuuurgh!
