‘So … I’ve been asked to review these knickers,’ I confided in my friend sheepishly.
‘They’re like special undies, you know, for … um, women who are incontinent.’
‘Ooh,’ my friend said through pursed lips.
‘You mean like a … NAPPY?’
‘Christ, I hope not,’ I groaned inwardly gritting my teeth.
There’s no doubt that some days I feel like I need to wear a nappy. Ever since I had my first daughter almost six years ago, I’ve had issues with my pelvic floor.
It started with a falling out feeling in my nether regions like a tampon being dislodged. Shortly after began minor leakage when I ran, jumped, coughed, sneezed, laughed, skipped or hopped.
A specialist appointment confirmed that my injuries through child birth were serious. I had prolapse and nerve damage. Oh the joys, the joys! There’s no doubt regular pelvic floor exercises have helped, but there are days when a girl needs a bit of extra support – you know what I’m saying?
I usually wear a panty liner or pad on the days that I work to make me feel more secure. I had no idea that there was underwear available for women to help prevent them from leaks. I wish I’d come up with it – what a bloody good idea.
Modibodi specialises in underwear for women that protects against leaks, sweat and period stains. When I read about them online they sounded like just what I needed for my embarrassing problem. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on them … or big butt into them, whatevs.
On Monday last week, I took the classic bikini – leak proof for a test drive and let me tell you I certainly put it through its paces. The classic bikini’s claim to fame is its in-built protection from light leaks, sweat and odour. The undies boast Modibodi’s modifier technology and are made in bamboo jersey.
I can tell you that as soon as I slipped them on they felt like they were made for me. They caressed my Kim Kardashian-esque backside very nicely. They were light, comfortable and there was no sign of a VPL (visible panty line). They look just like regular underpants apart from being slightly thicker in the gusset area.
Just between you and me, and I’m sure I’m not alone in this, whenever I wear a pad I feel like everyone knows I’m wearing one. I can hear a rustle, rustle, rustle as I walk and I’m convinced everyone must hear the rustle, rustle, rustle too.
There is no rustling with these knickers. You don’t feel like you’re wearing a pad, you don’t even feel like you’re wearing a panty liner. They simply feel like regular undies that are slightly thicker in the middle area. They actually feel uber comfortable on and I wish I could throw out all of my old underdaks and replace them with these. They feel that good.
Monday was a particularly hot day in Brisbane, I’m talking 30 plus degrees. I was doing my usual rush from daycare to work and even RAN to make a lunch date I was late for. That’s right, I ran, so strong was my confidence that these bad boy undies had me covered. And they did. I felt very supported and if there was any leakage or sweat at all, I certainly didn’t feel it.
The very next day, I trialed the sensual hi-waist bikini – leak proof. These come in three levels of absorbency – light, moderate and heavy. I opted for the moderate absorbency and felt well supported all day long.
These knickers are proof that suffering from incontinence does not mean that you’re resigned to wearing pads and panty liners for the rest of your life. You don’t have to wear oversized undies or a giant nappy that would make even your grandmother shudder.
You can still be sexy because you are still sexy.
Modibodi underwear uses cutting edge moisture wicking and absorbency technology. They draw fluid away from your skin and lock it into an absorbent middle layer. A waterproof film prevents leaks onto your clothes, keeping you feeling fresh and comfortable. They also boast antibacterial technology which eliminates odour.
The underwear can protect you against light bladder leakage, period stains and odour. Nursing tops that absorb milk leakage are also available.
The gussets of Modibodi’s Modifier Technology™ underpants are super slim (3mm). They feel only slightly different from regular underwear.
They come in a variety of colours and designs to suit all shapes and cater for sizes 6 – 26. I’m usually a size 12-14 in underwear and I opted for a size 12 which fits perfectly.
Modibodi’s website provides a great protection guide to help you decide which pair of undies is best for you.
