Should it stay or should it go? – the party edit

Way back in 1998, I thought I was hot stuff in this sexy little number from Dotti.

qutball1

I bought it for the Queensland University of Technology ball where it served me well as I downed Fire Engines and danced up a storm to Gettin jiggy wit it.

You know what though? I haven’t worn it since, yet I keep it up the top of my wardrobe just in case.

If you tuned in last week, you will know that Dave wants me to get serious about downsizing the amount of clothes I’m keeping in storage.

Because I’m a tad sentimental, I’m finding this a tough task. I’m enlisting your help with my fun new game, Should it stay or should it go?

In today’s first official edition of Should it stay or should it go, I have a selection of party outfits for you to vote on.

Type Stay in the comments for items you think I should keep, Go in the comments for items you think I should give to charity and Mine! for items youΒ want. You can read the full game rules here.

1.

dottiVital stats:
Dotti
Size 10
Brown

Pros:

  • Classic style.
  • It’s in good nick.
  • The girls could wear it to a fancy dress party one day.
  • It takes me back to the QUT ball.

Cons:

  • It’s incredibly tight around the chest.
  • It’s brown.
  • I am not 21 anymore.

So darlings, you have got to let me knoooow. Should it stay or should it go?

2.

two-pieceVital stats:
Room Two
Size 10
Two piece, skirt and top
Navy with silver stripe

Pros:

  • It looks great on.
  • It’s in good nick.

Cons:

  • The side splits make the dress very outdated.
  • No emotional attachment to it.

So darlings, you have got to let me knoooow. Should it stay or should it go?

3.

floralVital stats:
Target
Size 10
Floral
Never worn. Price tag still attached.

Pros:

  • It’s a light, cool and pretty dress.

Cons:

  • This dress has just never felt comfortable on my body. It’s too tight around the back and gapes at the front. Getting the dress off is near impossible. I had to virtually dislocate my arms to get it off after this photo.

So darlings, you have got to let me knoooow. Should it stay or should it go?

4.

spottyVital stats:
Kuku
Size 10
Black with white, yellow and pink spots

Pros:

  • This dress has served me well in its time.
  • It’s cute and fun.

Cons:

  • The frills make it a little outdated.
  • I need breast implants to make it fit me now.
So darlings, you have got to let me knoooow. Should it stay or should it go?

5.

reddressVital stats:
Portmans
Size 10
Red
Worn once. Tag still attached.

Many of you voted Stay for this raunchy red dress last week, but I don’t think the photo showed you the true beauty (or otherwise) of this little number. Note jagged hemline. I repeat, the hemline is jagged. I have worn this only once to a wedding. It still has the tag attached because I forgot to take it off.

Pros:

  • Red is my colour.
  • The ruching makes me look like I have a flat-ish stomach.

Cons:

  • The hemline is outdated, as is the thick halter neck.

And that’s it! Go forth and vote, lovely people.

Thanks for joining in and stay tuned next month for Should I stay or should I go – the t-shirt edition.

Linking up today with the ever hilarious and thought-provoking EssentiallyJess for IBOT.

Here goes- a dear friend saved a hot little red dress from her honeymoon thst her daughter wore to prom- so the first black one stays and the red one – thst hemline will be back !!! But most of all – give yourself huge kudos for being the same size now – a 10!!! Not many can claim that!!

I’ve just resumed my ‘should it stay or should it go now style challenge’, as I’m having far too many ‘I have nothing to wear’ moments while looking at my chaotic wardrobe. We should join forces. I shared a sneak peek of the next item on the list on the blog yesterday. The first item that I publically shared was my wedding dress but most people thought I should just relocate it to another part of the house.

They all need to GO! I’ve downsizing too and I have put my brutal cap on. It’s required to stamp out the sentimental mode. I think you probably haven’t worn some of these because they’re items that you feel are just a “maybe”. Not your best, so you always choose something else. My motto when I’m shopping is if it feels not quite right or is just a maybe – then never buy it. It has to be a complete YES, I LOVE THIS I WANT TO WEAR IT FOREVER! Then I will always wear it. Sorry, I got side tracked. Good luck with the clean out!

You look fabulous in all of them. BUT the underlying message in each outfit is that you don’t feel comfortable and for that I think they should ALL go. Give them away or sell the ones with tags still attached and then use the funds to buy something new. πŸ™‚ (well that’s what I would do)

Keep them all. They all still look good on you and you might wear them again. I don’t think we’re going to be much help culling your clothes.

Can I suggest you wear number 3 more often. It’s summer and its perfect for the current season and weather. Wear it next time you go to brunch/lunch with friends or with the family. Don’t worry about thinking you’re over dressed, I rather be over dressed than under. And watch, the whole room will look at you in envy, cause you’ll be the best dressed there.

Personally I wouldn’t keep something because I think it might come back into fashion, when fashion does its every 15ish year cycle the fabrics and cuts vary from originals and you will put it on and still think oh its not quite right and repurchase the newer version or you will forget it is there and repurchase something similar without realising. The only things you should keep when unsure are classic higher end purchases because they rarely date as quickly/if ever.

Items that you don’t feel comfortable in will never make it out the front door, chuck them all.

Send them all packing! I was torn on the floral dress, until you said it didn’t fit well. So out it goes too!

Thanks Tegan. Yep, shame about that dress, but it’s off to a good home.

Can’t believe I missed this post! I’m a fan of the floral number which Em has scored. The others might need to go. Only because 1984 called & asked for them back. Ha ha ha couldn’t resist that. You could wear a paperbag & still look hot. X

Well I think they all look great on you to start with. I guess the last red one is a bit outdated, and you may just never wear it because of that? Or it might come back into fashion… Sorry I’m no help am I! #teamIBOT

I agree with Emily – you’ve basically answered your own question in the CONS for every dress. Bye Bye!

I go through my wardrobe once a year and if I haven’t worn a garment in the last 12 months, it has got to go! Hope it helps πŸ˜‰

Get rid of them luv!!! Maybe no 3 for a hot day could be kept but if you’d choose something else over it, it needs to go. I love clean outs and I love snooping in on others even more!
