Should it stay or should it go?

Dave nagged me over the holidays to sort through the storage bags of clothes I have sitting at the top of our wardrobe.

I only had about nine crammed in there, so I don’t even know what he was going on about :/

To get him off my back I sorted through each and every bag, but could only part with enough clothes to fill one bag for charity. The rest of the clothes went back up to the top of the closet. Job done.

‘They’re all sorted,’ I told Dave.

‘I threw out what I can. The rest has to stay.’

I like to consider myself sentimental, but it appears Dave thinks I’m a hoarder.

‘But you’re not even wearing those clothes,’ he said.

‘You haven’t worn any of that stuff in years.

‘What about this top?’ he queried as he pulled out a sparkly little number.

‘I want to keep that in case we go to a seventies party,’ I replied.

‘What about this?’ he asked flashing a patchwork style denim skirt.

‘Well that might come back in fashion,’ I said. ‘You never know.’

‘And this?’ he asked again.

‘I can’t throw that out because it’s lucky.’

My excuses went on and on.

At the end of our conversation I resolved to take another look at my clothes, but I need your help.

Over the next few weeks or more, we’re going to play a game.

A little game I like to call Should it stay or should it go.

Cue the theme song please, Kylie.

In each edition of the game, I will show you a selection of clothes I just can’t decide whether to keep or not and you get to vote on what stays or goes. Here’s a taster.

should-it-stay-orWoot! Are you in?

Let me tell you a little more about how it works:

1. Each week I will show you a selection of clothes relating to a specific theme.

2. In the comments you must vote on each of the items modelled.

3. Type Stay for the items you think I should keep, Go for the items you think I should give to charity and if you want the item yourself you must type MINE!Β

4. Items that receive a majority of Stay votes remain in my closet πŸ™‚ Items that receive a majority of Go votes get packed away for charity. The items which are tagged MINE! are posted to the first person who types MINE!

6. This game is open to all countries, however those who type MINE must be within Australia.

So, what do you think? Sound like fun? Are you ready to play?

Well, tune in this time next week for the first edition of Should I stay or should I go – The party edit.

Linking up today with EssentiallyJess for IBOT.

I was so excited when I saw this post appear in my newsfeed, this is such a great idea! Now I may not be the best person to give advice re: what should go as I also have a similar collection of bags and boxes full of clothes I haven’t worn in years! Number 1 & 2 should certainly STAY, number 3 can go.

WOHOO I am IN! I love this idea and can’t wait to see what you have lurking your closet. I’m the same with some pieces in my wardrobe too. I have still kept the same shorts for when I was 14 because they were the first pair bought from City Beach. I could fit into them all through my teenage years and then I got married and the kgs were added to my frame. πŸ™

The red one is cute – it’s dated a little but I’m sure you’ll get invited to a party where it fits the theme…you look good in it too!

I have been decluttering my house like a demon. It feels great. I would keep number 2 and ditch 1 and 3. A good question to ask when deciding is “Do I love it?”, not even “Do I like it?”. Good luck with it.

I’m going to kick off the game by saying number 3 can go. I probably should do this lol I have tubs of clothes packed away but my overriding excuse is one day my hips will shrink back to pre baby size and I’ll fit into all my guess jeans again.

This is brilliant Renee, your onto something here. I find sorting through 3 little people’s wardrobes hard enough mine barely ever gets a look in (I need to address this situation). I have some charity bags already packed, you’ve just triggered a motivating thought in me to physically put them in the car and drop them off to the op shop today!
In case you wanted an opinion on the 3 teaser pics I say stay for the little red number (you look too good in it) and go for the other 2. Looking forward to next week.

Only keep 2. I don’t see you as a round neck person, and yeah no 3 doesn’t ‘do anything’ either.
Best question to ask yourself when going through clothes is, “Does this outfit make me feel better about myself?” bottom line, otherwise ditch.

    Hi Renee – Keep #2
Also at the end pack up what you don’t keep and go to the Swop Shop at West End on Friday’s and see if they will take your clothes. They have a deal thing there – money/voucher for clothes. I think they have a Facebook page.

I am probably not the best to advise on fashion but I would say 1 & 3 to go and keep 2. In saying that, I can’t see the hemline of No. 3 and if I could that might make a difference to my thoughts. This is a great idea – hope all the differing opinions don’t confuse you though! lol

Oh I LOVE LOVE LOVE this!! Ok Fraggle Rock top – keep but if you don’t – MINE!!! I love tops like this sooooooooooooooooo badly and am always on the hunt. The other two can GO! Great idea Renee, I have been decluttering the house in a major way and at first it was hard to throw things out or move them along to charity, but once I started I cannot explain to you how good it felt to clear the space and open up the energy that was otherwise suffocating. I know it sounds crazy, but sometimes holding onto things that you really should be letting go of can change more than just space in your house, it can work in more ways than you expect πŸ˜‰

Not crazy at all! I always feel so great after a decluttering. It really does help you feel less suffocated. As for the clothes though, I’ve been having a real battle parting with a lot of them. I think I’m going to have to keep Fraggle Rock though sorry. Dave bought it for me when we were in Disney World. Too much sentimental value πŸ™‚ x

Sounds like a fun way to declutter your storage of clothes but it might take quite a while to get through 8 bags worth! Lol

Re the above three items I’d keep the red dress. It looks like a fun twirling dress and you seem really happy twirling in it. I’d give the other two items away however. I must admit it’s always easier to say this to other people than to do it with my own excess items!

2 – STAY IF and only if you can name one event in the year to which you’ll wear it. Otherwise GO.
    3 – GO
