All I want for Christmas

While the kids have been trawling through the toy catalogues lately doing some essential reconnaissance for Santa, I’ve been conducting a little research of my own.

I have a tradition wherein each year I buy myself a new outfit to wear on Christmas Day.

I don’t often get to buy clothes or anything special for myself, so at Christmas time I go all out because, you know, I deserve it 🙂

This year after great dedication to the cause and plenty of hard work, I’ve narrowed my Christmas outfit down to two choices.

I’m no fashion blogger and don’t have a natural sense of style like my sister or mum, but I do know what I like.

I want something casual chic and comfortable yet elegant. It’s sure to be scorching hot in Brisbane on Christmas Day as per usual, so I don’t want anything clingy. Plus I’ll be running after the kids, so it has to be practical.

I’m quite chuffed with myself to be honest because I’ve taken my research to a new level this year. I’ve not only narrowed my choices down to two dresses, but also two pairs of shoes, accessories and who could forget my latest obsession – Jamberry nail wraps?

Here’s what I’ve come up with.

bohemian tradersI love this dress because it screams comfort, yet is uber cool at the same time. I can see myself chilling out in this on Christmas Day. I’ve kept the shoes and earrings neutral because I want the pop of colour to come from my nail wraps. I love this look because it’s subtle, but funky.

Bohemian Traders Classic Scoop Neck Dress in Pinstripe $129
Walnut Gisele Sandal $49.95
Claire round textured stud earrings $9.95
Faded bouquet Jamberry nail wrap $22 a sheet
Country club Jamberry nail wrap $22 a sheet

gelatoAs for this little number, there’s no doubt I’d feel like a goddess wearing it or Serena from Gossip Girl or some other hot celebrity. A girl can dream, right?!

I adore the colours in this. It’s light, fresh and has the sexy summer vibe happening. As a tall girl, I’m a huge fan of maxis as they make me feel less giraffe-like. (That’s totally a thing, right?)

When it comes to nail wraps, I love to mix and match. I’ve chosen the Sunny Lotus nail wrap and Seascape nail wrap to tie in with the yellows and blues in this.

Eb & Ive Del Ray 6 way dress $89.95
Billini Savannah Flat $49.95
Misty fine delicate crossover bangle $16.99
Sunny lotus Jamberry nail wrap
Seascape Jamberry nail wrap

Sigh. I really want them both. I’ve worked so hard this year, surely I’m on Santa’s nice list.

Which one gets your vote? Do you buy yourself a new outfit for Christmas Day?

I love the stripey shirt dress. LOVE IT. Comfortable and completely chic. I want one ….
I actually bought a stripey singlet style dress from Susan’s just yesterday. I’ve been dreaming of your shirt dress since last summer and this was the closest I could find.

I think that maxi would look fantastic on you! The colours would suit you and you have an amazing figure to show off in the slightly more fitted style of the maxi. I do love both choices though xx

    Outfit option 2.

No new outfit for me, unless I can’t fit into my current clothes due to my growing baby bump. I’m working on Christmas Day in any event so it’s kind of a non-event.

Love them both! One for Christmas, one for New Year’s? The colours in the maxi are calling to me. That one if you have to choose. But I seriously think get both, because you’ll wear the stripey one all summer. x #teamIBOT #Jesswashereinspirit

I like the maxi – it looks very cool and light. I’m so big it would look like a mumu on me!

I used to buy a new outfit each Christmas (or mostly just a top etc) that I’d then wear for all of my Christmas celebrations, work parties etc.

Lovely choice but I think my vote is with outfit no 2. There’s something lovely about its tropical colours and the elegance of a long skirt. You could treat yourself to both??? I like that idea 🙂 xx

All I can think about with the maxi is “strapless bra!” – something I could not deal with on Christmas day. I may have to copy you with the stripey one though. All of Brisbane will be dressed the same! xx

I like the second one because I love maxi’s too. And how pretty is the seascape wrap! You’ve inspired me to look for a new dress for myself for Christmas. I don’t normally buy a new outfit, but I’m hosting Christmas this year so I think I should dress up nice.

I would go number two for two reasons.
Reason 1. The colours! It’s gorgeous, and so summery!
Reason 2. And this is the practical reason… I reckon for $129 you could find an extremely similar dress and get two of them. It’s just too much for an over-sized t-shirt. BUT, this is the woman who wears her clothes until they fall apart (literally, sometimes even while I’m wearing them!) so I can spend my money on books, plus, I think jeans are the height of fashion, so take what I say with a grain of salt, lol!

MOST importantly, both dresses look appropriate for a big lunch. I would go the maxi because it is very pretty and I do love a pretty frock. However, I believe that the stripes would be appropriate for present openings and Christmas breakfast, then the maxi to swan around elegantly in when all the rellos arrive for lunch. There you go, get both.

I always have a new frock for Christmas Day, although this year’s frock has had one previous outing (not Christmas) as I have SO MANY FROCKS I thought I would try and rationalize. Will possibly have new shoes though. Can never have enough shoes.

I like the maxi, but I think that’s because I can’t wear T-shirt dresses, so I tend to not like them. You could probably pull it off though.
I haven’t got a new Christmas outfit yet. Each year I hope Boatman will buy me something but he hasn’t yet. I just need to get it myself don’t I?
