Dear Baby Smiley
Last night, like every night, I poked my head around your bedroom door to check on you sleeping.
I paused as I inhaled your delicious baby scent – a mixture of baby powder, bubble bath, and just the simple goodness that comes with babies as cute as you.
I could have stood there in a love-induced stupor watching you in all of your cuteness all night. I willed time to stop, wanting you to be my little baby forever.
I peeled myself away though to write this letter to you, my baby girl, for your birthday.
Today, you are one.
It breaks my heart to know that I have to work today and won’t be able to celebrate your special day with you.
Your Nan will spoil you rotten though. You’ll have fun playing with her wooden bowls and chasing your fur cousins, Toby and Gidget, relentlessly around the house.
We will all make it up to you this weekend with a special family celebration.
Party preparations have been in full swing of late with your sister just a wee bit excited.
‘Darliiinnnnnnng!’ she squeals as she kneels in front of you squishing your chubby bubby cheeks between her hands a tad too enthusiastically almost toppling you over.
‘Darling, it’s your birthday and you’re invited!
‘My baby is one!’
As chief party planner, your sister has chosen a bunny rabbit cake for you and informed me that she will in fact blow your candles out as you are still a baby 🙂
We will smile with you, laugh with you, and watch you have your first taste of cake.
We’ll sing to you, play with you, cuddle you, and load you with presents. We’ll reminisce about the year that’s been and the years to come.
We’ll wonder how we happened to get so lucky to have such a happy little soul like you in our lives.
With your wild hair, dimpled cheeks and constant smile, you have wrapped us all around your little finger.
You are a constant source of entertainment laughing at your own jokes, bopping up and down to music, and bottom shuffling at high speed getting into anything and everything.
You are a clever cookie, clapping when we say clap, leaning in for a cuddle when we say cuddle, rubbing your hands through your hair when we say wash hair, and patting your tummy as you babble bub, bub, bub.
You have filled our lives with more laughter, love, and happiness than we could ever imagine possible.
You have made our little family complete.
Happy birthday darling heart.
Love Mummy xo
