Here we sit on our first overseas holiday as a family. The first chance we’ve had to spend extended quality time with each other in, well, in forever.
We have not a care in the world. Our busy lives are on hold, our worries are distant.
We have waited for this holiday for what feels like an eternity. We have worked hard for it. We have needed it. A break from routine, a break from the screen.
Here we sit blissfully aware that it is our time to bond as a family, to enjoy each other, to be.
We drank in the beauty of the landscape surrounding us – aqua lakes rippling below snow-capped mountains, forests with trees that touch the sky, eerily low lying clouds which the sun peeked through to cast a magical, almost other worldly, light over everything.
For 11 days, we spent quality time with not only our little family, but Dave’s brother’s family.
Four little cousins had the chance to really play with and get to know each other for the first time. There was giggling and squealing and noise and craziness … and mummies reaching for wine 😉
For 11 days, all eight of us lived together in a confined space. While this would drive some crazy, we cherished the opportunity to get to know each other a little better. It was comfortable, natural, and the most fun we’ve had in a while.
Curly-locks and Smiley thrived in their rural surroundings.
Curly-locks started the holiday off on a high fulfilling her dream of eating a lollipop on a plane 🙂 and then shortly after seeing a farmer IRL 😉 For her though, nothing could top sleeping in a bunk bed 🙂 She truly came out of her shell on this trip and it was beautiful to watch.
We definitely witnessed Smiley grow on this trip also. She has quickly become little Miss Independent wanting to use her new found legs at every opportunity. She delighted in toddling around to investigate her new surroundings and explore different textures. She learned one or two new words almost every day. All we need to do now is teach her that all those cows she kept calling out to and pointing at were actually sheep 🙂
As for Dave and I, we are more loved up than ever – with our little family and with each other.
There we sat on that golden hill, making memories, filling our hearts, and promising ourselves it won’t be as long between holidays again.
When was your last family holiday? How was it?
Linking up today with the very awesome Jess for I Blog on Tuesday!
